Milk Link, Our Business, Member Council

The Council is appointed by the Local Groups with each Council Member ordinarily being elected for a term of four years. Each Council Member is responsible for providing an effective communication channel between members of their Local Group and the Council and thus forward to the Board.

Except for a few specified issues, the Council acts as the General Meeting of the co-operative. In particular, the Council is required to approve by 66% majority (on a “one person, one vote” principle) any grant of the Members’ Contingent Liability as security for any borrowings of the Society and/or its subsidiaries.

The Council is also responsible for the election of the Farmer Elected Directors to the Board on a “one person, one vote” basis. There are currently 31 Council Members.
